Discover Berlin > Mitte > Weinbergsweg

Weinbergsweg is a ‘ramp’ that connects Prenzlauer Berg with Mitte, so to speak. It stretches between Fehrbelliner Straße and Torstraße – beyond Fehrbelliner Straße it merges into Kastanienallee. Apart from the Weinbergspark and the bars and cafés near Rosenthaler Platz / Torstraße, there is not really much to see on Weinbergsweg.

If you watch the hustle and bustle on the Weinbergsweg for a few minutes, you will notice that there are quite a lot of people walking or cycling up and down the Weinbergsweg. The incline is a tough one – it can be quite a struggle to get uphill on a bike – so some people prefer to walk and push their bikes. But downhill can be really fun, as the Weinbergsweg is a pretty steep road, at least by Berlin or northern German standards.

If you ever cycle down Weinbergsweg yourself, please be careful: you can get pretty fast – and there are streetcar tracks – and consequently streetcars. And near Rosenthaler Platz, people coming out of a bar or the park could jump out into the street right in front of you.

Walk towards Mitte

The Weinbergspark begins at the top end of Fehrbelliner Straße on the right-hand side. The small Italian restaurant La Focacceria, which is known for its handy slices of pizza, is located on Fehrbelliner Straße. For some years now, it has also been serving delicious ice cream in the summer months. So if you need some provisions for the way, this would be a good opportunity.

On the left-hand side, a long new building with a green area in front of it stretches parallel to the Weinbergsweg – the Haus am Weinbergsweg senior citizens’ center.

About halfway along the road, there is a staircase leading to the rose garden of the Weinbergspark. Here you will also find the Rosengarten Kulturpavillon (linktr.ee/rosengartenkulturpavillon), which has a relatively large beer garden here in summer. Concerts and other events are also held here from time to time.

A little further down there is another entrance to the Weinbergspark. Behind it are a number of cafés, bars, restaurants and late-night eateries. The Circus Hostel (circus-berlin.de/hostel) on the left-hand side rounds off the culinary offerings on Rosenthaler Platz.

The entire route from Fehrbelliner Straße to Rosenthaler Platz takes about 5-10 minutes – depending on how leisurely you walk. It may take a little longer uphill.
